Rose Class - Miss Murphy - Reception

 Welcome to Reception!
Visit our hashtag #classoneisfun on twitter to see your children working hard and having fun!

Here is some helpful information about Reception. Please feel free to approach a member of staff for more information.

Our P.E lessons are on Thursday. Children will need a white t-shirt and black shorts or leggings please. In the summer term, children will also need daps or trainers for outdoor P.E. Please label all clothing including P.E kits to help ensure clothing doesn't get lost or mixed up - many thanks! Please could the P.E kit be left in school for the half term and we will send it home each half term. Just a quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

Book bags

Please bring a bag in for your child to take books home to practise. You can purchase a book bag from the school office. We will provide children with two books each week and change book bags every Monday. If you have any questions about reading, please feel free to ask!

Cooking and fruit

We gratefully receive donations of £1 a week if possible please. This money is to buy fruit for the children at snack time. The money will also go towards ingredients for cooking activities. Without this contribution snack time and cooking would not be possible. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Thanks!

Outside play

The children will have access to outside play throughout the day so it is important that they bring coats every day please.

Water bottles

The children can bring in water bottles to keep in the classroom to drink out of during the day (only water please). Please put their name on it and they can take it home every day to refill. You can buy a water bottle from the office for £1.

For the Summer term, our topic is Journeys. We are looking at stories such as 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Monkey Puzzle' as well as exploring different ways of travelling. We are discussing our favourite journeys that we have been on.

Following the Nelson handwriting scheme, we are focusing on developing children's correct pencil grip and letter formation. The children have been trying so hard to sit their writing on the line, use finger spaces and full stops in their writing. Using their reading skills, children are becoming able to select key words to use in their writing and 'sound out' words that they want to write.

In numeracy we are ensuring we are confident with numbers 0-10 and then working on numbers to at least 20. We aim for children to be confident reading, writing and ordering numbers. You can also find fun and free maths games and activities on to play with your child.

We look forward to another successful term,

Many thanks,

Miss Murphy (teacher), Mr Ainscough and Miss Davies (support staff).
