New for 2019

  • Can your child please create a Welsh dragon for our Eisteddfod competition by the 4th March! This could be a drawing, painting or model. Diolch!
  • Our new topic for the Spring term is 'All Aboard!' We will be looking at different modes of transport, places and journeys and we are currently reading 'The Train Ride' by June Crebin.
  • If you would like to do any extra practise at home with your child, here are some key skills we are working on this term in Reception:
  • In Literacy we are working on writing our names, forming letters correctly, reading and writing high frequency words, sitting words on the line, using finger spaces, full stops and 'sounding out' a word. We are also focusing on developing children's speaking and listening skills.
  • In Maths we are working on recognising and writing numbers to 20, counting accurately, adding and taking away. We are introducing counting in 2s and 10s.

Here is some more helpful information about Reception. For frequent updates, please download the 'Schoop' app with our school code 3294! If there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to ask a member of staff.

P.E

Our P.E lessons are on Thursday. Children will need a white t-shirt and black shorts or trousers please. In the summer term, children will also need daps or trainers for outdoor P.E. Please label all clothing including P.E kits to help ensure clothing doesn't get lost or mixed up - many thanks! Please could the P.E kit be left in school and we will send it home each half term. Just a quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

Book bags

Please bring a bag in for your child to take books home to practise. You can purchase a book bag from the school office. We will provide children with two books each week and change book bags every Monday. We will also put high frequency words in the book bags for children to learn. Practising reading in Reception is essential so thank you! If you have any questions about reading, please feel free to ask!

Food

Please let us know if your child has any food allergies or any other special requirements. Thanks!

Outside play

The children will have access to outside play throughout the day so it is important that they bring coats every day.

Water bottles

The children can bring in water bottles to keep in the classroom to drink out of during the day (only water please). Please put their name on it and they can take it home every day to refill. You can buy a water bottle from the office for £1.

Welsh/Cymraeg

Diolch yn fawr to those children (and parents!) who have taken home our 'Antur Tedi' Bryn. He has had so much fun with you and loved to see you practise your Welsh!

Here are the Welsh phrases that we are currently practising in Reception:

Croeso (Welcome)

Pwy wyt ti? (Who are you?)

Sut wyt ti? (How are you?)

Sut mae tywydd heddiw? (What's the weather like today?

Beth wyt ti'n hoffi? (What do you like?)

Ga i... (Can I have?)

We look forward to another fantastic term!

Many thanks,

Miss Murphy (class teacher), Mrs Davies and Ms Davies (support staff).
