Welcome to Daffodil class

Autumn 2018

Welcome to Daffodil class!

Dear Parents/Carers

Here is some helpful information on Year One/Two (Class 3).

Miss Morgan is the classroom Teacher

Mrs Din and Miss Flynn are the Learning Support Assistants

P.E is on Monday. Please could the P.E kit be left in school for the half term. Just a quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn in school for safety reasons! Please label all school clothing and P.E kits. Thanks!

The children will have access to outside play for most of their session so it is important that they bring coats every day. Please put their names in their coats so there are no mix ups. Thanks!

The children can bring in water bottles to keep in the classroom to drink out of during the day (only water please). Please put their name on it and they can take it home every day to refill.

Book bags will go home every day starting from Friday. Please can the children bring their book bags in daily, if you have signed the reading record then we will give your child a new book. Please continue to write comments in the reading records.

The children will each have their own homework book. These will be given out every Friday. Please support and encourage your child to complete all set homework as it embeds and consolidates skills they are learning within the classroom. Please can the homework books be brought back to school on a Thursday so that new homework can be set for Friday.

This term’s topic is ‘Me, myself, my wonderful world and beyond'. The children will be learning all about the different parts of our bodies and what our organs do. We will also be comparing where we live to Australia!

If you could do some research at home with your child it will be very helpful and appreciated!

Through exploring books related to our topic the children will be developing their ability to put their ideas into sentences and organise their writing to suit the purpose e.g. diary writing with correct punctuation and accuracy. We will also work on sequencing ideas – developing their ability to use connectives to move their writing on

The children will also be using non-fiction texts linked to our topic to learn about the different organisational features, such as alphabetical order, headings, diagrams, captions, and bullet points.

During handwriting sessions we will be looking at pencil grip and control as well as continuing to develop the correct formation of lower and upper case letters

In maths sessions we will be exploring number formation, number patterns, 2D and 3D shapes, repeating patterns, bonds to 10, doubles to 10, one more and one less. It would be very helpful if you could help your child practise their maths at home. You can also find maths games and activities on to play with your child.

If you have any concerns or questions concerning Year One/Two or your child don’t hesitate to ask. We look forward to a fun term!

Thank you for your support!
