Tymor y Gwanwyn - Spring Term 2019

Spring Term Homework Challenge!!!!!!

Ready to celebrate St David's Day we would love for you to work alongside your child to create a piece of Dragon art. This could be a painting, drawing, collage or junk model. Your creations will need to be in school by Monday 4th March.

We hope you enjoy being creative together!

Welcome to Daffodil Class!

Miss Morgan is the classroom Teacher.

Mrs Din is the Learning Support Assistant.

P.E is on Monday. Please could the P.E kit be left in school for the half term. Just a quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn in school for safety reasons! Please label all school clothing and P.E kits. Thanks!

Outside play

The children will have access to outside play for most of their sessions so it is important that they bring coats every day. Please put their names in their coats so there are no mix ups. Thanks!

Water bottles

The children can bring in water bottles to keep in the classroom to drink out of during the day (only water please). Please put their name on it and they can take it home every day to refill.

Book bags

Book bags will go home every day starting from Friday. Please can the children bring their book bags in daily, if you have signed the reading record then we will give your child a new book. Please continue to write comments in the reading records.

Homework books

The children will each have their own homework book. These will be given out every Friday. Please support and encourage your child to complete all set homework as it embeds and consolidates skills they are learning within the classroom. Please can the homework books be brought back to school on a Thursday so that new homework can be set for Friday.

The children each have their own account on Nessy. We are working hard to progress our spelling and reading skills through using the Nessy programme. To access the website please go to The secret word is - ragingbiscuit

Have fun exploring all of the different islands!

This term’s topic is ‘Down in the Jungle!'.

If you could do some research at home with your child it will be very helpful and appreciated. The children will also be using non-fiction texts linked to our topic to learn about the different organisational features, such as alphabetical order, headings, diagrams, captions, and bullet points.

During handwriting sessions, we will be looking at pencil grip and control as well as continuing to develop the correct formation of lower and upper case letters.

Year One pupils

Through exploring books related to our topic the children will be developing their ability to put their ideas into sentences and organise their writing to suit the purpose e.g. diary writing with correct punctuation and accuracy. We will also work on sequencing ideas – developing their ability to use connectives to move their writing on.

In maths sessions we will be exploring number formation, number patterns, 2D and 3D shapes, repeating patterns, bonds to 10, doubles to 10, one more and one less. It would be very helpful if you could help your child practise their maths at home. You can also find maths games and activities on to play with your child.

Year Two pupils

We will be doing lots of different types of writing during the year.  We will be writing stories, letters, facts and much more! You can help develop this further at home by encouraging your child to write shopping lists, birthday cards and messages all of which they will enjoy!!  We will also be working really hard on the presentation of our work and we will even start to join up some of our letters.

In Maths we will be learning, addition and subtraction problems including the use of money, ordering 2 and 3 digit numbers, doubles and halves within 20, 2, 5 and 10 times tables - we will also be dividing using these numbers, time - o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to times with the digital time, 2D and 3D shapes. It would be very helpful if you could help your child practise their maths at home. You can also find maths games and activities on to play with your child

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child, please don’t hesitate to ask. We look forward to another fun term!

Thank you for your support!
