Class 7 - Miss Charles - Year 5

Spring Term 2017
Teaching/Learning
Maths and Literacy will continue to be taught in the morning and topic work and Science will be taught in the afternoon. Much of the curriculum will be taught by a ‘themed’ approach. Our topic until Easter is ‘Botswana’. We are lucky enough to have Miss Vaughan (LSA) to support the children everyday. In Science, the children are involved in a Duffryn cluster project, which involves learning about the world around us with practical activities.

PE

PE days will continue  to be on a Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon. The children will need black shorts and a white t-shirt. The children will be outside (games skills), so will need a track suit and trainers. Earrings cannot be worn for PE.

SCHOOL AND CLASS REWARDS

Thank you for your continued support dealing with any issues that have arisen in the last term.

 Gilwern
Dates- Wednesday 8th - Friday 10th February

It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to participate in. It is usually the highlight of their memories of school. It is also an excellent way to ensure coverage of ‘outdoor and adventurous activities’ in the National Curriculum.

We have been tested which material would be the best insulator of heat if you feel in cold water. They wanted to test chocolate spread. Probably because they wanted to eat it afterwards!

                                        NCPCC Number Day
We made board games, IT games and multi skills games,  which have been good fun to play.

Autumn Term (2)

Antony Jinman is the 12th man to visit both the South and North Pole in the UK. He gave a presentation about his expeditions and let the children try on his polar gear.

We are not just having a great time. We are learning about friction.

What better way is there to learn about air resistance than making a parachute!

We enjoyed our project on Industrial Wales. The highlight for most of the children was the visit to Big Pit.
