Every Monday afternoon, for 6 weeks, we are luckily to be learning 'safe cycling'. Welsh This term we are learning the past tense. Ble est ti? Where did you go? Es i..... I went... Beth wnest ti? activities, including: Gilwern, swimming and John Frost High School transition
activities. Letters will follow shortly to give you more information about the
activities. Swimming- 5th November-23rd November (Every day for 3 weeks from 10:30-12:20)Gilwern Dates- Wednesday 13th - Friday 15th February Teaching/Learning Maths and Literacy will be taught in the
morning and topic work and Science will be taught in the afternoon. Much of the
curriculum will be taught by a ‘themed’ approach. Our topic until Christmas is ‘Industrial
Wales’. Year 5/6 will have the opportunity visit Big Pit on Monday 22nd
October. We are lucky enough to have Miss Pettican supporting
the learning in the class 2 afternoons a week. In Science the children will be learning about healthy
living and forces.
READING, SPELLING AND HOMEWORK Your child will be listened to read twice a
week in a guided reading group. The children can change their individual reading
books whenever they need to. Maths homework and project work will also be
given.
PE PE is Thursday afternoon. The children will need
black shorts and a white t-shirt. (Only 1 session per week as we have 3 weeks
of intensive swimming this term) Children will need a swimming costume and goggles
(girls will need a cap) World War 1 assembly and workshop
Healthy Living Week We made Victoria Sponge cakes. Welcome to Class 7 (2017-18) Summer Term (1) TOPIC: Wales and Welsh National Parks PE Monday afternoon-Games Friday afternoon-Dance (Haka) SCIENCE: How do survive on an expedition? Investigations and experiments: What materials would make a natural water filter? What food would be best to take on an expedition?, What material would be be best for a shelter? Spring Term Gilwern Dates- Wednesday 7th - Friday 9th February PE: Gymnastics Friday afternoon Topic: Fire and Ice-Iceland Science: insulation, reversible and irreversible changes, electricity circuits Class Assembly: 9:30 Thursday 15th March

Spring Term 2017Teaching/Learning Maths and Literacy will continue to be taught in the morning and topic work and Science will be taught in the afternoon. Much of the curriculum will be taught by a ‘themed’ approach. Our topic until Easter is ‘Botswana’. We are lucky enough to have Miss Vaughan (LSA) to support the children everyday. In Science, the children are involved in a Duffryn cluster project, which involves learning about the world around us with practical activities. PE PE days will continue to be on a Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon. The children will need black shorts and a white t-shirt. The children will be outside (games skills), so will need a track suit and trainers. Earrings cannot be worn for PE. SCHOOL AND CLASS REWARDS Thank you for your continued support dealing with any issues that have arisen in the last term. Gilwern It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to participate in. It is usually the highlight of their memories of school. It is also an excellent way to ensure coverage of ‘outdoor and adventurous activities’ in the National Curriculum. Autumn Term (2) Antony Jinman is the 12th man to visit both the South and North Pole in the UK. He gave a presentation about his expeditions and let the children try on his polar gear. Welcome to Class 8 2016/17 Autumn 1 The children will have a year of exciting activities, including: Gilwern, swimming and safe cycling.
