Oak Class - Mrs Rowlands - Year 6

Summer Term

The final of Maesglas Primary School will be quite challenging but fun, we have lots of exciting activities planned and some fabulous educational trips to develop our learning further. As part of our transition to high school we will also complete a variety of activities to begin this process.

This term is our final term in Maesglas Primary School so we will be refining our skills ready for transition. We also have lots of fun activities planned such as our end of year show and our end of year trip! Dean will return this year to help us learn the techniques needed for beatboxing and rapping and we will use these skills in our performance...we can't wait!

This term we will be studying 'Welsh National Parks' and 'The Swinging Sixties' and as such lots of our learning will be cross curricular.

Over the course of this term we will be revising and further developing our writing skills by writing a discussion text, a variety of different forms of poetry, a rap/song and scripts. We are starting by writing a discussion text 'Should mobile phones be allowed in schools?'. We will also be taking part in a mock trial 'Was Goldilocks right or wrong?'.

We will be starting the term focusing on consolidating the skills we already have and pushing them forward so that we are ready for High School. We will be working hard on place value, multiplication and division, addition and rounding and have lots of opportunities to develop our reasoning and problem solving skills.

During this term we will be embarking on an exciting science project with Astro Cymru which will see some fun experiments being undertaken to support our scientific development. We will be lucky enough to have a visit from an astrophysicist who will set us challenges and also visit The University of South Wales to have a look at equipment used to monitor space.

Homework will be set on a Friday, this will be on MyMaths so please make sure your child knows their log on and has access to complete it, we need to make sure we are in a routine ready for high school.

We have P.E lessons twice a week. Tuesday is our indoor games lesson and Friday is our outdoor lesson. Children will need a white t-shirt and black shorts/joggers plus appropriate outdoor footwear. Please ensure that kit is in school labelled correctly with names. Year 6 will also have other opportunities so kit should always be in school.

I am always here to help so please don’t hesitate to ask if you have some queries.

Thank you for your support

Kind Regards

Miss Bebb & Miss Pettican
