Rose Class – Reception

Hello and welcome to Reception at Maesglas Primary School!

We hope you are all well. We are delighted to be working with your child in their first year of school! Here is some helpful information about our Reception class. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office on 01633 816047.

Thank you for your support J

Meet the team!

Miss Murphy - Class Teacher

Miss Brown - Teaching Assistant

In the first term we will focus on settling your child into school life by encouraging them to explore their learning environment, develop friendships and build confidence. Our topic is ‘Marvellous Me.’ We will be learning about ourselves, our bodies and discussing our families and interests J

In Maths we will be focusing on numbers within 10 to begin and then to 20 and beyond. In the first few weeks, we will be doing lots of counting and number recognition. We will also practise writing numbers, size ordering and many different areas of maths.

In Literacy we will begin by focusing on our speaking and listening skills. We will be practising correct pencil grip and control. Children are learning how to write their names and their letters correctly. We will be reading lots of different stories such as Goldilocks as well as children learning their first sounds.

P.E Lessons are on Mondays. Please send children into school wearing their P.E kit on Mondays – they can keep it on all day. The children will not need to bring their P.E kit into school until further notice. A quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn on P.E days for safety reasons. Thank you.

Outside play - The children will have access to outside play for many of their sessions so it is important that they bring coats every day. Please put their names in coats so there are no mix ups. Thanks!

Home Learning

We will assign weekly home learning for your child. In line with Welsh Government advice, we will be sending this online and we will give you and your child all the information on how to access (letter with logins already sent home – if needed again please let us know.)

We are aiming to create a 'Blended Learning Approach'. This will be to practise work completed in class. We hope you find these activities fun to complete together.

Homework will be assigned on a Friday and should be completed by Wednesday.

Reading

When your child is ready for a reading book, we will send them home with 2 books on a Monday for the week. Please bring back these books on a Friday ready to be reissued the following week.

Water Bottles and Snack

Please bring a named water bottle to school. If children would like to bring a healthy snack (fruit ideally.) Please can they keep it in a box or labelled container or bag. If snack could be kept separate from lunch, this would be very helpful – thank you.

If you haven’t already done so, could you also please bring back your child’s information sheets so we have your contact details. If your child has any allergies, dietary requirements or medical needs please let us know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information.  We look forward to working with you, to create a happy and fun environment where your child will continue to develop and grow.

Many thanks,

The Rose Class staff
