Welcome to Tulip Class - Reception/ Year 1
Tymor Hydref - Autumn 2019

Topic - Heroes

Hello and welcome back for another exciting year in Maesglas Primary School.

We are pleased to be given the opportunity to be part of their learning this year.

We will continue to provide you with information about how you can support your child at home and please feel free to come and see us if you have any questions.

Meet the team!

Mrs Watkins - Class teacher

Mrs Fidler - Learning support assistant

In Maths we will be learning, addition and subtraction problems including the use of money, doubles and halves within 10 and learning about 2D and 3D shapes. It would be very helpful if you could help your child practise their maths at home. You can also find maths games and activities on www.topmarks.co.uk to play with your child.

In Literacy we will be doing lots of different types of writing during the year.  We will be writing stories, letters, facts and much more! You can help develop this further at home by encouraging your child to write shopping lists, birthday cards and messages all of which they will enjoy!!  We will also be working really hard on the presentation of our work and we will even start to join up some of our letters

P.E Lessons are on Wednesday. The children will continue to extend their skills in gymnastics, games, athletics and dance over the year. Please can you make sure that all of the school clothes have their name in. Just a quick reminder that jewellery should not be worn in school for safety reasons!

Outside play - The children will have access to outside play for most of their sessions so it is important that they bring coats every day. Please put their names in their coats so there are no mix ups. Thanks!

Reading is so important for the children’s development with their language, imagination and writing. Please purchase a book bag. We will then provide your child with a yellow reading record book. Children will be provided with 2 reading books a week and these will be changed every Monday. A list of key words will also be sent home with your child to practise. Please tick off the words when they know them by heart.

Water Bottles

We try to encourage the children to drink plenty during the school day and although we do provide some drinking cups it leads to a greater independence and confidence if the children can take control of their own water. Please can the children bring a named water bottle to school.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information.  We look forward to working with you, to create a happy and fun environment where your child will continue to develop and grow. Any questions then just pop in and see us.
