Sports Day Success
A big thank you to everyone who supported our sports day on Wednesday! Despite it being the hottest June day, all the pupils enjoyed the fun, and we saw some fantastic races.

Measles in Newport information.
We have been sent the following information for parents about the recent measles outbreak in the city.

We're in the last half term of the year and there's still so many fun activities going on. Can you please make sure your children have their PE kits everyday as we will be using our grounds as much as possible.
Please make sure that your children keep up their attendance right up until the end of the term - each day does matter!

Carrieann Edwards
As many of you will know our school community has been devastated at the passing away of Carrieann, our school cook. She was loved by all the children and staff and we will all miss her.

We have had a brilliant few weeks in school with all classes showing off their fantastic work in the class assemblies. It has been great to see so many of you in your children's classrooms and we welcome your feedback as this was the first time we have done this.

We have also been trying our best to keep to our target for attendance this term. We know that we have nagged some of you, but it is vital that your children are in school whenever possible! We are looking to reward the pupils and classes who are in the most! Please don't let your children's attendance slip after this summer.

Ice Rink Trip
All our Autumn 100% pupils loved their trip to Cardiff Ice Rink!

Callio
Well done to the 56 pupils in the Red category who have improved their attendance in January!
All parents should have received a letter at the end of last term regarding their child's attendance. Each pupil has been given a ranking and we will be working very hard to ensure that all of our pupils can be in the Gold or Green categories. We can not stress how important it is that your children attend school as often as possible. We also need them here on time, as lateness is a huge issue for us.

Remember you can always keep up to date with all the amazing things going on via the school twitter feed @maesglasprimary where you'll see some great pictures!

We've had a visit from our School Liaison Officer PC Thomas who has booked dates to come and talk to our pupils. To find out more and do some activities look at www.schoolbeat.org !

Please remember that we do not allow driving, dogs or smoking on school grounds for the safety of your children.

We've now got over 1000 followers on Twitter - here's a short selection from our busy school life!

Look at the fun we had when Matthew Pritchard came to visit as part of breaking a World Record for doing the most Half Ironman Distance Triathlons in a year! Follow him at www.pritchards100kchallenge.com and help him get to his fundraising target!

We've gone green again!!! Congratulations to Mrs Hall and the Eco Council for gaining our third Green Flag!

Everyone is working hard, and big thanks goes to all pupils for making last term's attendance figures better than ever! We need to continue this term to beat our totals for the year.

We are very proud of our school, our pupils and our community. We hope that you are able to find everything you need here.

Attendance

We are currently looking at ways to support and reward good attendance in school. Thank you to all of you who are supporting us and your children by sending them to school as often as possible. We can only help them improve if they are in school!

School Dinners

School dinners are now £2.05. Can you make sure you’ve paid enough on your ParentPay account as several pupils are in arrears and we have to stop providing meals when the amount gets too much.

Parent Council Meetings

As a school we are always looking for ways to engage you and our community. We have started to have a Parent Council. This is your opportunity to have a say in what goes on in and around school. If there are issues that you wish to discuss, or ideas you’d like to share, please come along - we want to know what we can do better.

The next meeting is on the 4th April at 2pm.

Driving, Dogs and Smoking - Not on our site please!

We’d like to remind you all that driving on site is not allowed. We have also noted that cars dropping off children for breakfast club before 8.30am are not keeping to the 5mph speed limit. These measures are only to protect your children.

We have also found dogs mess on the grass on a few occasions. It is a citywide policy not to allow dogs on school grounds.

Lastly, we also have to remind you that smoking is not allowed on any Newport City Council sites. Please refrain from smoking on site.

Remember you can follow the fun your children are having in class on our Twitter feed @maesglasprimary

Super Smart Uniform!

Everyone looks smart at the start of term, but can you please make sure that you label everything - we’ve already had a fair few items without names in! It’s so much easier to return clothes when they have their name in.

Earrings can only be studs and must be taken out for PE.

Don’t forget to have your child’s PE kit in school at all times - it makes life easier to keep it on their peg.

Roald Dahl Day!

On Friday 16th September we will be celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday by dressing up as characters from his books. This is for all the pupils (and staff!) who wish to join in and have some fun! (Nursery will not be joining in as it’s a bit soon in the term - sorry.)

The children are all working hard and we hope you are using the school website to follow what they have been getting up to in class. The F1 team had a raffle to raise money to support their bid to make it through the Welsh National Finals and raised a whopping £128! Well done lads - and good luck!

Cars on site

As a regular item we remind you that driving is not allowed on site. We cannot stress this enough as we are concerned for the safety of your children. There are still too many parents and family members who ignore this message, and we are very worried that an accident will have serious consequences.

Attendance and Lateness

Last term we had really strong attendance figures, with 97 pupils having 100%! Please help us to improve upon this and give your children the best opportunities to learn by being in school on time every day! We have got a growing number of pupils arriving after 9am, missing vital inputs to lessons.
